Today, I decided to change my final long run before the marathon with tomorrow's 7 miler. I am still beat up from the weekend and building the Great Wall of Wyckoff Ave. I'm actually more sore today than I was yesterday. I was hoping yesterday's 6 miler would shake out the soreness and the lactic acid, etc. However, not so much. When I got about 5 miles in today, I knew a switch made sense. I want my last long run to be positive.
It doesn't have to be record breaking, but the long run can have a psychological effect on you. I want the positive feel of banging out a good 18 miles at race pace heading into my final 2 weeks of prep and taper. Today, I capped it off at 7 miles at about 56 minutes. It was a solid 8:00/mile pace. I am looking to pace the marathon at 8:30/mile, give or take, depending on GoPro shooting time :)
