10/30/2015 Quick run and headaches

A 20 minute run at a decent pace and I feel good.  I haven't run since Monday and it definitely helped calm my nerves a bit.  Obviously, they have and will continue to build right up until Sunday.  I have to say this last week, I have been off.  All growing up and into my early adult years, I was never a headache kind of guy.  I would get a headache occasionally, but usually attached to some other illness.  However, in the last few years, I have started to get headaches that really kinda suck.

I wouldn't classify them as massive migraines, like I need a doctor or medication, but I definitely do not enjoy them and I can't really contain them.  I think I was misdiagnosing them as caffeine headaches at first, but I have realized that, that isn't the case.  Over the last week or so, I have had a few headaches off and on and I'm not sure if they are weather related, Mets related, race related, stress related, or what!  I do know that I got one Wednesday evening and it was not good and carried over into Thursday.

It did get better later in the day and I am just hoping to avoid any more until after the race.  I don't know how to avoid them, so I am just simplifying my meals and drinking a lot in an effort to stave it off.

10/28/2015 Headaches, exercise, Expo Night, and get here already!

Well, I ditched my tempo run yesterday and didn't really do much.  I have had a headache off and on for the last couple days.  I don't know if it's the weather, being old, the Mets (yes, the Mets, don't screw with me ), or what.  I have been trying to carb up a bit and am drinking more water.  I hate water, but gotta do it.

It looks like I will be heading to the Expo to get my race number Thursday or Friday after work.  There is no mailing of numbers or satellite locations, so everyone has to go to the Javitz Center.  Should be 120,000 people there, awesome!  I will have to grab my stuff and go, so I can get home.  Especially if it is Friday, since the World Series comes to Citi Field that night and I want to be home watching it!

Today, luckily, I am headache free so I just got a strong walk in for about an hour.  The legs feel great and I am good to go.  Tomorrow, I need to squeeze a 2-3 mile run in during a busy day, but I want to get the legs moving a bit more than just a walk.  Tomorrow's weather is supposed to be great as well.

Looking ahead, I hope to jog about 1-2 miles Saturday to stretch out the legs and get the blood flowing.  Then, Sunday is go time.

10/26/2015 Marathon week is finally here!

I remember posting the message that I was selected in the NYC marathon lottery like it was yesterday.  I remember the excitement, the shock that I was selected, and thinking how it was going to feel like forever getting to November 1st.  Somehow, the day is nearly upon me.  It has gone by in a blur of mileage, lost miles due to softball injuries, fallen toenails (3-4 during this lead up, not sure), races, and a bunch of regular life stuff!

As I was running my 4 miler today, I was thinking a lot about the race ahead and even beyond it a bit.  Like a lot of runners that choose to race, I need to look ahead to the next challenge so I stay on the running course.  However, I did pull myself back.  I want to enjoy Sunday from step one to the .2 at the end.

If you have ever seen it in person or on TV, you know how inspiring it can be.  The back stories of runners, the crowds, the bands, the finish in Central Park, so many amazing things.  I cannot wait to experience it and hopefully share it on here as well.

This week's running schedule:

Tuesday- 4-5 mile tempo run, 8:00/mile pace
