07/01/2015 Today's workout and cross training

I got in a strong 5 miles this morning and ran a decent pace, about 7:30/mile pace.  It was definitely a good effort.  I ran a pace I could push a little, but I still could have gone another couple miles if need be.  Over the next couple days, I need to get in a couple jogs of more like 6-8 miles at a time.

This evening, old man softball and a little running around.  I didn't see much action at all so I didn't move as much as I normally do.  However, it was good to move around athletically at something other than just running.

06/29/2015 Summer camp and the lunch running begins

Today was the first day of my summer camp, yeah!  During the summer, I get a good deal of my miles in during the day as I have a decent lunch hour, a good route home, and an awesome wife that will drive me back to camp after I shower.  I ran a quick 3.6-7ish miles home in about 26 minutes.  I tried to move faster as I went and started off just over 7:00/mile pace and ended well under 7:00/mile.

I won't always run the route home fast, but some days it feels good to go fast.  Some days, if I have the time, I will maybe extend my route home up to 5 miles of so.  Over the next four months, it's all about the miles.

03/28/2015 Sunday's workout and onto the next phase in training

After a solid week off from running, post triathlon, I now am entering the next phase of my training for the second part of the year.  Yesterday, Sunday, I got out for a strong, hard effort and felt great mentally and physically.  I ran my usual 6.1 mile route starting from home and really worked the second half of it, including some serious hills.  I finished up the run in about 47 minutes and felt good stretching out the legs and running strong on not only the downhills, but also the uphills.

My fitness is in a great place.  I now have to move into the mileage phase, stretching out and adding miles each week to get ready for the marathon.  I have about 4 months and look forward to it.  I also plan on sprinkling in some races and speed work to supplement my training.  In September and October, I am definitely going to add some basic body weight exercises.  It has always been a weakness of my training, but I am committed to add it in the fall.
