03/06/2015 Miles for the week and tentative schedule for 2015

Today I hit 7 miles in about an hour long run.  I ran the second half faster as a way to increase the fitness of a boring run.  In total, this week I am at about 22 miles.  If you add in a couple walks and some cross training thanks to snow removal, it was a good week for my fitness.  I want to be north of 20 miles absolutely for the next several months, and most likely north of 30 miles as soon as possible and for as long as possible.

I have a tentative schedule for 2015 that looks like this:

Cupid's Chase 5K, February               20:25   (11th overall, 1st in age group)

Fred D'Elia Memorial Day 5K             May 25th

Franklin Lakes Triathlon 5M              June 20th

Running with the Devil  3hr run        July 18th

Wyckoff Education Foundation 5k     Oct. 17th-ish

TCS NYC Marathon                          Nov. 1st

I may sneak in an additional 5K that pops up or something, but this will definitely be my busiest racing year by far.  I am excited for it.  Racing keeps me motivated.  I will post this in the sidebar so that it is easy to view and as the year goes by, my results will be evident on the main page.

03/03/2015 Today's 2 part workout and the lottery results...

First, I got into the 2015 TCS NYC Marathon!  I am very happy to be headed to NYC next November and cannot wait to have some real direction to my sustained training over the next 8 months.

Second, I spent about an hour and a half on a nice long run today.  The reason I called it a 2 part workout was because I negative split the run into two halves.  The first half I ran 5 miles in 45 minutes.  I then turned it up a bit and during the next 45 minutes, I ran 5.28 miles in the same amount of time.  Consequently, I spent the first 45 minutes at a 9:00/mile pace and the second 45 minutes at a pace of 8:31/mile.  The workout was strong, felt good, and taxing near the end.

I am not sure what I want to do for a workout tomorrow.  Over the next week or so, I plan to layout a short term running outline as well as a long term outline.  Details to come!

03/02/2015 Today's workout and tomorrow's opportunity...

Today I ran for about 45 minutes at a comfortable pace, probably around a little over 5 miles, maybe 5.25ish.  I really wanted to loosen up the legs heading into the week and be ready for tomorrow's long run.  I also got a bit of upper body work this morning thanks to about 5-6 inches of snow overnight and a snowblower that died during the last snowstorm.  I promised myself, no more bitching about the winter!

Tomorrow's opportunity has nothing directly to do with my long run I have planned.  It has to do with the fact that tomorrow is the lottery drawing for the 2015 NYC Marathon in November.  As a lottery entrant, I will wait all day tomorrow while people find out at different times of the day that they are in the lucky pool of those that were selected.  According to the website, some will find out early in the day and some later as the drawing is multiple stages and will be all day long.  This is a big day for me as a positive result will really shape my training for the whole year, with some specificity for individual events along the way.  A negative result, although not the end of the world, will leave my direction a lot more open ended, at least for the time being.

Keep your fingers crossed, I will let you all know asap if I get in at some point.  If I don't, I will share that as well when I guess it becomes painfully obvious :)
