On the loose legs, I ran a nice 5 miler this morning, just before lunch. I swear, when I walk in the morning, I want to be more productive. Maybe I'm on to something! I am still a few months out from the Memorial Day run and I am already nervous. I have set lofty goals and I am going to hold myself accountable.
Regardless of that outcome, I think it's important to know your competition. I, along with most people, have a tendency to look at others to compete against. There is nothing wrong with that. However, it is a good idea to look at yourself for competition as well. I don't think there is anyone better to compete with than your previous self. What you did last workout, last week, last game or race, whatever. I believe that if more people compared themselves to their former self rather than others, people would be happier and would stick with running or working out long term.
It may be easier said than done, but think about who you are challenging during your next workout, yourself or some stranger. Challenging yourself pays dividends.
